Get to know us

Hello and welcome to 4×4 Overland Hire.

We are a family business, run by myself (Morven) & my sister Iona. Based in Braemar Aberdeenshire, in the heart of Cairngorms National Park.

Braemar is a great location to start your adventure, there is so much to see and do locally and further afield. Whether you want to travel through the Cairngorms, along the North East 250, further away to The North Coast 500, or Skye and the other islands.

We strongly recommend spending some time in and around Braemar first. It is surrounded by rolling hills including the second highest mountain in Britain – Ben Macdui, and is a fantastic place for keen hill walkers, ramblers, and casual walkers. There are miles of walks and cycle routes, and we can help you rent mountain bikes or e-bikes in the village to start your adventure. If you are looking for a real Scottish experience the River Dee which flows past Balmoral has excellent salmon fishing available. In the winter Glenshee (Scotland’s largest ski resort) is just 8 miles south of the village.

We started our business in 2019, it was a new business venture for the two of us. We both enjoy travelling and have worked in the tourism industry around the globe. Before our new business venture, I was travelling the world chasing the ski seasons a passion that I still do every winter in Scotland. Iona, when not based in the beautiful city of Glasgow, could be found on adventurous holidays backpacking around places like Vietnam or the Amazon Rain Forest.

It was on one of our travels that we discovered overlanding and the freedom that it gives.

It took 2 years to make our dream a reality, with lots of planning, designing, researching and engineering (and Iona’s many spreadsheets!). It has been quite the adventure in and of itself, but we are very proud of our 4×4 expedition vehicle and we think you will love it too.

We have tried to provide you with the ultimate camping truck, which is well thought out and engineered with high-end products, to provide you with everything you need for a comfortable camping experience. As we have thought about it so much, it means you don’t have to!

You just need to turn up with your clothes and be ready to set off on your adventures, completely hassle-free. We want it to be effortless and easy for you after all this is your holiday!

Coming from Scotland we have always felt that this little country has as much to offer as any other and decided that providing an overland experience was the best way to help others explore it.

We truly believe that Scotland has it all including the breath-taking scenery, (from beaches, to hills, and ancient forests) and a whole host of outdoor activities (biking, skiing, surfing, paddle-boarding, climbing, hiking, golf, fishing). This combined with the culture and history of the country and not to forget the amazing food and drink means that you will have one of the greatest experiences ever. The weather is maybe a little unpredictable but that’s why we are ready for all conditions at 4×4 Overland Hire, which adds to the adventure.

Morven & Iona

Morven – I prefer Autumn as it is such a beautiful time of year when the leaves are changing colour.

Iona – Summer, the longer, hotter days are a great time to explore beaches and go swimming and paddle boarding.

Morven – Braemar will always be my favourite but a very close second is the Isle of Skye for the striking scenery which is just the best for photographs.

Iona – My favourite place is Glenelg and I feel it doesn’t get enough attention. It has a lovely pub, a great beach you can camp on with amazing views of Skye, and iron age Brochs to look at.

Morven – Haggis, Neeps and Tatties of course (and tablet but not at the same time)

Iona – Fresh seafood if you’re on West Coast or the islands

Morven – The storage, everything has a place & there’s lots of room inside it.

Iona – The shower as I like to start the day fresh.
